Karen Rowell

Karen Louise Rowell, 61, of Milledgeville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 16th,2023 surrounded by loved ones. Karen was born on October 13, 1961 to William and Joyce Rowell in Waynesboro, Georgia. She considered Milledgeville her home. She attended Edmund Burke Academy in Waynesboro and Georgia College in Milledgeville. She started working in banking but transitioned to insurance. She found her passion and excelled as an insurance agent with State Farm. Not only was she an accomplished businesswoman, she was also dedicated to improving her community. Finally, Karen had an impeccable eye for interior design and loved to design and decorate for her home and others. Karen gave birth to her daughter Julia in December of 1995. This allowed Karen to accomplish what she wanted in life - to love, be loved, and to have a family of her own. Family was very important to her. Karen lit up any room she entered. She loved her family and friends, and she was always happiest when helping those around her. She never met a stranger. Karen excelled at propping up her family and friends and somehow finding perfect gifts for every occasion. Regardless if it was a professional relationship, or a new or lifelong friend, she made it her mission to enrich and improve the lives of others. She filled our hearts and minds with a lifetime of memories. We will miss her greatly. Karen was preceded in death by her mother Joyce Reeves Rowell and father William Daniel Rowell. She is survived by her husband David Smith of Milledgeville, her daughter Julia Hinson of Southern Pines, NC, her sister Kim McCurry of Ball Ground, brothers Rusty Rowell of Waynesboro and Ronny Rowell of Ellijay, and son Brad Smith and grandsons Matthew and Mark Smith of Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Habitat for Humanity, or any other organization that benefits the community of Milledgeville, Georgia. There will be a visitation at 5PM on Monday, June 19th, 2023. There will be a small, private service with a joyful Celebration of Life at a later date.
