Bunion Ronald Tanner, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Milledgeville, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Jackson officiating, followed by graveside service at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Bunion was born on March 21, 1946, in Sandersville, Georgia, to the late Clyde Buron Tanner and Lucille Crawford Tanner. He was preceded in death by his brothers Clyde Buron Jr. Tanner, Albert Tanner, Ralph Tanner, and Tommy Tanner. He is survived by his lifelong partner and loving wife, Mildred May Tanner; daughter Tanya (Ken) Fountain; son Kevin (Robin) Tanner; grandchildren Keely and Kasey Fountain, and Asa and Jozie Tanner; brothers Tyree Tanner and Vunion Tanner; and several nieces and nephews. Bunion’s love for music began at age 8 when he received his first guitar. Throughout his life, he mastered multiple instruments and wrote songs that reflected his creativity and passion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, earning commendations to include the Purple Heart, U.S. Army Commendation Medal and many others. After returning home, he dedicated 34 years to Central State Hospital as Activity Therapist Supervisor making lasting improvements in the lives of countless patients. Bunion also owned and operated Tanner's Landscaping, bringing his artistic vision to every yard he transformed under the motto, “Your Yard is Our Work of Art.” In retirement, Bunion became known as “Georgia’s Music Man,” spending his days writing songs, playing music, enjoying golf, participating in tractor shows, and embracing the great outdoors. His life leaves a legacy defined by his devotion to music, songwriting, and, above all, his love for Jesus Christ, God, family, and friends. Bunion will be remembered for extraordinary kindness, generosity, and a spirit that brightened every room. Through every melody, lyric, and performance, he shared a gift that brought comfort, inspiration, and joy to everyone that will continue to resonate in the hearts of family and friends. While Bunion’s presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of compassion, creativity, and love he cultivated throughout a life well-lived will endure for generations. His songs remain, the memories endure, and the kindness he showed continues to echo as a lasting testament to a beautiful life.
