George Logan

George Malcolm Logan, 86, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 14, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted by the family January 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church 582 Walnut St Macon, GA 31201. George was born on August 17, 1939, in Albany, New York, to the late Harold S. Logan and Amy Marjorie Dunn. He spent his early and formative years along the East Coast, living in New York, spending summers and extended time on Cape Cod, and enjoying his college years in Vermont. After graduating from Levittown Memorial High School in New York, he went on to attend Middlebury College in Vermont. During his time there, he was a member of the Acapella group, The Dissipated Eight, a passion that reflected his lifelong love of music. He proudly graduated with Honors in English and maintained his affinity for Midd by attending "D8" reunions and serving as an alumni advisor in his later years. In 1961, George began service as an Army officer, which brought him to the Midwest, where he was stationed at Fort Sheridan just outside of Chicago. He served his country for nearly three years during a period of heightened global tension, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. In the early stages of his professional career, George established himself as a representative for the publishing company Doubleday, a role that eventually led him to settle in Macon, GA. George then found success in the area of real estate and worked for many years at Fickling & Company and later with Hilda Allen Real Estate. George found great joy in reading, writing, music, movies, and dabbling in the kitchen, often combining these interests by attending book clubs with a homemade coconut cake in hand. He also loved taking long walks through the Shirley Hills neighborhood, a simple pleasure that reflected his appreciation for his home and the beauty of nature. He was an avid reader of historical works and biographies of political figures and military leaders, with World War II being a favorite subject. He was a member Christ Church of Macon, and at times sang in the choir. He was a lover of music. He had a great sense of humor—which he retained even as his body failed. He was an avid supporter of Adopt a Golden Atlanta, where he met the love of his life, Tillie, a doting and vivacious golden retriever who preceded him in 2018. George’s proudest accomplishments were found in being the father of his four loving children: Christopher Logan (Mindy) of Fleming Island, Florida; Elizabeth James of Atlanta, Georgia; Jeanie Haselden (Brooks) of Greenville, South Carolina; and Mary Kate Vallarino (David) of Menlo Park, California. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Scott and Katie Logan of Fleming Island; Alex and Betsy James of Atlanta; Ford and Parker Haselden of Greenville; and Clara and Logan Vallarino of Menlo Park. He is further survived by his sister, Gail Logan of Macon, Georgia. There will be family-only services at a later date.
