Nancy Turnage Douglas

Nancy (Nance) Turnage Douglas, age 57, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Magnolia Dining Room, Good Samaritan Center, Advent Christian Village, 10676 Marvin Jones Boulevard, Dowling Park, Florida, officiated by Pastor Jack Jones, Chaplain, GSC. Funeral services will be conducted 2 pm, Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from 12:30 PM until the service at 2:00 PM in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, 1670 N. Jefferson Street NE, Milledgeville, officiated by her beloved friend and pastor the Rev. Ed Nelson of Junaluska, North Carolina. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Jackie Jackson, Phillip Jones, Ray Markwalter, David Page, Gary Swinger, and Rob Viao. Nance grew up in Columbus, Georgia then attended Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School (RGNS) (Rabun Gap), Truett McConnell College (Cleveland), and Georgia College and State University (Milledgeville), making her home in Milledgeville and teaching in the Putnam County School System. She expressed her love of the arts by singing in an all-girls trio and RGNS traveling choir, performing and singing in school plays and local theatre performances. She was an artist of acrylic, water colors, and pen and ink creations, and embraced life through photography that captured her love of travel, friends, and family. After retiring and the death of her beloved husband, she divided her time between Milledgeville and Florida, living near her mother and sister and her family. Nance was the daughter of Virginia Beasley Page and the late Herman Leslie Turnage (Columbus) and step-daughter of the late Mattox B. Page (Dowling Park, Florida). She was preceded in death by her husband Conrad Douglas (Milledgeville). She is survived by her mother Virginia B. Page (Dowling Park, Florida); sister Jenny (Franklin) Harry (Tallahassee, Florida); nieces Tracy Lynn Harry (Tallahassee, Florida) and Tammy Lane (David) Barlow (Thomasville); great-nieces Macy Lane Sadler and Marlee Breanna Sadler (Thomasville); step-brothers John A. (Myrtle) Page (Macon); Wayne F. (Kay) Page (Big Canoe); and David M. (Maureen) Page (Big Canoe); Uncle Carlisle (Claudette) Beasley (Nashville, Tennessee), Uncle Herschel McClellan (Perry, Florida), and Aunt Linda Beasley (Nashville, Tennessee); the beloved Mildred Jackson Family; the beloved Levi and Harriet Swinger Family; her devoted friends Stephen M. Stewart (Milledgeville) and Janice Steadman Jones (Milledgeville), "little sister" Susan Jackson Kennedy (Glenwood), Susie Hudson (Dowling Park, Florida), as well as a host of beloved cousins, friends, colleagues, and students. Memorial contributions may be made to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School whose mission is to prepare young people for lives of purpose and service; or to a charity of your choice. Following the graveside service, there will be a celebration of Nancy's and Conrad's lives during a drop-in reception between the hours of 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM at The Beeson-Stewart House located at 210 N. Columbia Street in Milledgeville. Family, friends, and former students are welcomed to stop in and share the photos and fond memories of their times with Nancy and her beloved Conrad.
