Pat Dinkins

Patrick Candler Dinkins III December 31, 1948- April 25, 2025 Patrick (Pat) was born in Atlanta, Ga, but made his home in Milledgeville, Ga for the last several years of his retired life. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emily Hatcher Dinkins and one very special son, Dwight Devereux Dinkins. Other survivors include a sister Evelyn (Evie) Harrison Dinkins (Bill Proctor) of Powder Springs; and brother in law, Jerry (Pam) Hatcher of Blue Ridge. He attended Georgia State University, Darlington School and graduated from Marist School in Atlanta. In his younger years, Pat was a part of the Dinkins Moulder Racing Team and raced top fuel dragsters. A favorite memory was racing at Gainesville Racetrack, home of the famous Gaternationals, when there were no grandstands, just a strip of pavement, a tower and sand in the pit area. He won his first race at the Gainesville Speedway Turkey Trot race in November 1968, beating Lester Gilroy. Pat's last car, named ''Insomnia'' was a front engine dragster with a “Hemi” engine. It won Best in Show at the 8th Annual International World of Wheels Auto Show in Atlanta in the mid 1970's when everyone else was switching to rear engine dragsters. When not racing, Pat was working alongside his father, at PC Dinkins Construction, Inc and built many of the first Ramada Inns around the Atlanta metro area. In 1980 he formed Admiral Construction Co., Inc. and built homes all around the Atlanta Metro area. Every construction project, whether a starter home, a screened porch addition or a million-dollar home; got the same meticulous, quality build. Working with his father, he started at the bottom and worked his way through every phase of construction until he learned almost every detail from engineering to electrical, plumbing and most especially structural integrity. His most loved project was developing his own 5 acres of land on Gilhams Lake in Roswell, Georgia, named Devereux Cove after his beloved son and his wife's Grandfather, Roy Devereux of Devereux, Georgia. His wife worked alongside him, choosing the house plans, interior fixtures and landscaping. In lieu of floral gifts Patrick requested anyone wishing to make a gift in his memory to his son's Special Needs Trust payable to SSNT FBO Dwight D. Dinkins. Checks can be mailed or dropped off at Williams Funeral Home and Crematory, 1670 N. Jefferson St., Milledgeville, Ga. 31061. and Gifts to the family directly payable to Dwight or Emily Dinkins. Services for Patrick will be announced at a later date.
