William "Bill" Young

Beloved Husband, Father, Educator, and Coach William “Bill” Charles Young, 73, of Milledgeville, GA passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on May 13,1953 to parents William and Violet Young and raised in Union Beach, NJ. As a teenager, he excelled in athletics and was awarded a scholarship to Kansas Wesleyan University graduating in 1974 and later obtaining a master’s in education at Georgia Southern University. Bill and his wife Karen were high school sweethearts and happily married for 52 years. He was a devoted husband and incredible father to Carissa (Andy) of Medford, MA; B.J. (April) of Springfield, VA; and Matthew (Kelly) of Newark, DE, and helped raise his sister-in-law, Carol Zordano (Tony) of Winston-Salem, NC. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face: Will, Breyer, Greyson, Kylie, and Shanna. Bill dedicated over three decades influencing the lives of young men and women through teaching and mentoring primarily as a high school football coach with tenures at Screven County High School, Baldwin High School, Jones County High School, and GMC Prep School. His legacy continues through the impact he made on the lives of everyone he met. A man of deep kindness, compassion, and faith, Bill lived a life guided by endless curiosity. This passion tethered him to education and personal growth, inspiring those around him to keep learning. He was known for his quick wit, gentle humor, and quiet strength that could instantly bring comfort or a smile to a room. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his sister Beth Eastmond (Walt) of Brooksville, FL, brother Bob Young (Karen) of Fredericksburg, VA, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law Mike Lesbirel of Holmdel, NJ and Mark Lesbirel (Janie) of Union Beach, NJ, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bill will be memorialized via a Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 1 pm in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home & Crematory in Milledgeville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 pm until the service time. For those unable to travel, the service will be livestreamed on his obituary page on the funeral home website. After the ceremony, the family will host a reception welcoming friends and guests at their home in Milledgeville, GA.
