November 27, 1943 - August 1, 2020
Beverly Ann Allen-Gustafson-Black (November 27th, 1943-August 1st 2020) of Dayton, Ohio, prolific bibliophile, linguist extraordinaire, receiver of elaborate love letters, and intrepid peerer over edges has bid farewell to this mortal plane from her pampas grass and rosemary surrounded cottage in Milledgeville, Georgia. At Rockford College, in Illinois, she attended college, beat (nearly) everyone at chess and fell in love with her very own wild Viking, Tom. She worked first as a high school English teacher, decided that was for the birds, and became a computer programmer at Wright Patterson AFB in Fairborn, OH. After 20 years, she retired and moved South because “Ohio winters stink.” She lived out the remainder of her years as a bohemian, cat-loving Scrabble player, surrounded by family and books. First college graduate in her family, lover of spicy food and lemons, inventor(?), social activist, protestor, and consummate gamer, she spawned a legacy of love, light, wonder, and an appreciation for weird vernacular. She leaves behind Siblings: Sandy Poske, Mike Allen (Cuba), Becky Farley (Gene), and Lon Allen (Lynn), a host of cousins and nieces and nephews who she adored. Missing her terribly today are her daughters Lisa Dunn and Katy Roberts (Reid) as well as her grandchildren: Bri Cha (Hyeonjin), Marisa Dunn (Paul), Grace Dunn, Avery Roberts & Ethan Roberts. She joins her Parents: Norma deBord & Sherman Allen and Beloved Ones: Tom, Hazel, Bev, Dale, David, Larry, Janetta, Marge, and many, many more. Excuse any and all grammar mistakes, Grandma. We’re in a bit of a daze. We love you forever. So it goes. Due to COVID-19, no service will follow. Please crack open a book and donate to your local library.
