James Earl Green

James Earl Green, age 89, of Milledgeville, entered into rest on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at his favorite place in the world, his home. James was born in Johnson County on January 2, 1934 to the late Jewel Green and the late Lily Anderson Green. He was in the middle of eight children, and started helping on the family’s small farm from an early age. His work ethic and desire to care for his family led him to enlist in the Air Force at age 18. He was stationed in mainland Japan during the Korean Conflict. At the time of his completion of military service, James returned to Georgia, met and married the love of his life, Iva Mae Harris. They married in 1957. James loved family, fishing, and the great outdoors. He was a quiet man, but would share hs love for Jesus with those closest to him. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Lily Green, by 4 sisters, Mary Parrish, Inez Harrison, Dorothy Evans, and Frances Clark, by a brother, Gerald Green, by a daughter, Patsy Puczkowski, and by two grandsons, Jahn Puczkowski and Brad Mitchell. James is survived by his wife, Iva Mae Green ; by two sisters, Alma Harrison and Geneva Wright ; by two daughters, Gloria (& Ron) Mitchell, and Kimberly (& Scott) Griffin ; 5 grandchjildren, Chris Mitchell, Eric Puczkowski, Ian Puczkowski, Hope Hood, and Amber Griffin ; and by 7 great grandchildren. A number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. A Celebration of the Life of James Green will be conducted Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Milledgeville with Rev. Tim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, in Heritage Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 1:00pm until the service hour. The family has requested that Memorial Contributions be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospitals, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Donor’s Favorite Charity.
