Richard Howard Burnette, age 83, passed away quietly at his home on Lake Laurel Rd in Milledgeville on Friday November 8. Richard was born November 20, 1935 in Buckeye Arizona to Thomas Howard Burnette and Ettie Mae Bristol . He was raised in “God’s Country” in Ray City GA as a young man joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. After serving a tour he attended college in California while working with his cousin Ralph Jr.at the family owned gas station while earning his barber’s license. He then moved into the Middle Georgia area met and married the former Marie Thompson and then settled in Milledgeville where he worked for Katy May’s Barber shop and managed the American Legion for over 15 years. During which time they raised three daughters, Teresa, Melissa and Amanda. In the late 70's Richard opened The FRM Farm Supply on Wayne Street in downtown Milledgeville, which he later turned into a small engine repair shop In 2009 Richard closed the shop and once again started cutting hair with long time friends Howell Horton and Bob Mercer (deceased) which he continued to do up until recent health issues. Richard is preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar Burnette, Archie Burnette, Ralph Burnette, and by his sisters Hazel Spires, Helen Edwards, Ann Chaney, and Beatrice Hess. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Marie T. Burnette, daughters Teresa (Don) Hines, Melissa (Mike) Fielder, Amanda (Mitsubishi) Echano, grandchildren Thomas Coffey, (Loneisa McBride) Trae (Heather) Coffey, Elizabeth (Russell) Shuman, Cara (Brook) Cannon, Markus Baez, Ethan Fielder, and Mandy Baez. Great grandchildren Katherine Coffey, Lilly Shuman, Penelope Coffey, and Graham Shuman The family will gather with friends to remember Richard at his home at 600 Lake Laurel Rd on Thursday November 14th between the hours of 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
