Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Register Oxford Walton will be conducted 2 pm Thursday, July 3, 2014 in the New Hope Worship Center with Rev. Beverly McLaren and Rev. Danny Herron officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until the funeral hour. Mrs. Betty Faye Register Oxford Walton age 81 passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014.She was a native of Laurens county and had made her home in Milledgeville for most of her life moving to Candler N.C. two years ago. She was retired from Forstman and Co. formerly J.P. Stevens and was a member of New Hope Worship Center in Milledgeville, but more recently attended Harvest Time Assembly in Asheville, N.C. She was predeceased by her parents Stewart Lester Register and Lillie Bell Guy Register, siblings Cullen Register, Geralton Register and Dellery Register Ballew and was the widow of the late Andrew L. "Pete" Oxford and Cline Walton. Betty was a family-oriented person. Her children and grandchildren were very close to her, and she loved them dearly, along with her nieces and nephews whom she considered special to her. She greatly enjoyed and always looked forward to family get-togethers. She loved the Lord and taught Sunday school for teenagers, young adults, and adults for many years. Not only did she teach in her church but also taught a Sunday school class at the Georgia War Veterans Home and ministered in local jails for a number of years. Her favorite activities were chatting with family and friends on the telephone, reading (mostly her Bible and other Christian literature), growing flowers, and quilting. She was also a great Southern cook. Survivors include her children Gary (Joan) Oxford and Gwyn Nett Phillips of Candler, NC, Bonnie (Danny) Herron and Paul (Donna) Oxford of Milledgeville, Wanda (Ken) Waldhauer and Ronnie S. Oxford of Savannah; stepchildren Don (Jane) Walton of Milledgeville, Patricia (Milton) Hood of Sandersville and Kathy (Clint) Butler of Eatonton; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; special niece and nephew Nancy Reiss of Coatesville, PA and Roger Eff Faircloth of Milledgeville; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
