Roberta Gabel ‘Bunny’ Darnell It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roberta Gabel ‘Bunny’ Darnell of Suwanee, Georgia, who passed away on January 19, 2022, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Albert N. Darnell, Jr. her parents, George Robert and Mary Irene Gabel and sister, Mary ‘Rena’ Gabel Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Darnell and sons Bobby Darnell (Lane) and Tony Darnell (Amanda) as well as her grandchildren Allison James (Brandon), Anna Darnell, Katie Darnell, Chris Darnell, Ryan Darnell, Adrienne Tucker and great grandchildren Alivia Pearce and Avery Young; and a brother, Donald Winfield Gabel. A native of Fairhope, Alabama, but a long-time resident of Perry, Georgia, Bunny was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church and the IHS Sunday School class. She and her husband Al were well known for their daylilies and their Perry home was an official show garden for the American Hemerocallis Society. During her many years in Perry, in what began as helping a neighbor watch her daughter for a few hours after school, Bunny developed a prolific home daycare business which she ran for many years. Because of this venture, she was known to many as ‘Aunt Bunny’ in a career that spanned two generations. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting in watercolors, was an avid reader and in recent years she developed a passion for watching University of Georgia football. After nearly 40 years in Perry, she and her husband Al moved to Suwanee, Georgia where they were attended First Redeemer Church and spent time with their younger grandchildren and enjoying their retirement. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Saturday, February 11th from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Perry United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, in Perry, Georgia with the Reverend Jim McIlrath speaking.
