Doyle Boyd

Doyle Francis Boyd was born on 6/16/1933 in Lincoln County, MS. He grew up near McComb, MS, with the exception of living in New Orleans, LA for 2-3 years. He graduated from Carter Creek High School in 1951. Doyle attended Clark Memorial College and Mississippi College until he joined the US Army in 1954. He completed basic training in Georgia, then was stationed in Germany for his remaining time of duty. When on leave, he enjoyed traveling to other countries and sightseeing. After his military service, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Mississippi College. He then attended the Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, earning his Bachelors in Divinity. After pastoring in Alabama (1960 -1965), he transitioned to Socialwork. He described himself as “one who can listen long and talk short”. He began work with the Division of Family and Children’s Services in Florida, and was chosen to attend Florida State University, where he earned his Masters of Social Work in 1969. Afterward, he continued to work with the Division of Family and Children’s Services in FL, eventually becoming the Director of Child Welfare in Tavares County. On March 23, 1968, he married his beloved wife, Doris. In 1971, he moved with his family to Milledgeville to work at the Youth Development Center in a supervisory capacity. In 1979, he transferred to Central State Hospital as a Senior Social Worker. He served as a Field Instructor for UGA Social Work students. He retired in 2000 , with a total of 32 years of service in Georgia. Afterwards, he enjoyed travelling the world with his wife, Doris. Doyle enjoyed fishing, playing tennis and baseball, gardening, carpentry, and helping his friends. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Florida. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Chard Wray Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, and River of Life at the First Methodist Church in Milledgeville, where he has been a member since 1971. He was a long time member of Learning in Retirement at GC&SU, serving twice as president. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Hardy and Anna Boyd; Brothers: Hewett, Everett, Chester (Chec), and Sisters: Lavern Ivey and Georgia Mae Sands; And his first grandson, Gregory Christian Quon (age 12). He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris; 4 children: Two by his first marriage: Brian Boyd (Marie) of Texas, and Peter Boyd (Karlene) of NW GA, and two by his current wife: Lancie V. Quon (Arno) of Lake Oconee, and (Frank) Doyle F. Boyd II (Bridget) of Milledgeville, GA.; Seven grandchildren: Jonathan Quon (Bri), Cameron Quon (Hannah), Rebecca Boyd (Will), and Carson Boyd, Allison Williamson (Alex), Brianna Williams (Alex), and Morrison Hodgman; Five great-grandchildren: Justin and Reece Williamson, Kinslee Quon, Willow Francis Harrison, and Theodore River Quon. The Dublin VA was very active with Doyle’s home health care for years. Thank You to all his staff for his care, support, and physical needs. A special thanks to his VA nurse, Ms. Rhonda Tillman, doctors, therapist, and other staff members, including caretakers India and Rita. Also, thanks to Compassus Hospice and their staff: Angel, Jennifer, and Nikki. Together, your support and concern made the end of life journey more comfortable. Lastly, Thanks for all the prayers and support from our community of friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 2 PM in the First Methodist Church in Milledgeville. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 1PM until 2 PM in the Church.
