Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 pm in The First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville with Dr. Jay Hodges officiaitng. Interment will follow in Heritage Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 o'clock until the service hour. Mr. Wise was a native of Sullivan’s Island, SC and had lived in Milledgeville since 1981. He was the son of the late Furman Deleon and Evelyn Venters Wise and a Veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1957-1961. In 1961 he began his career in the financial industry and served with Household Finance until 1966, Commercial Bank of Cobb Co. in Marietta from 1966- 1978, and then became the president of the First Citizens Bank in Fayetteville in 1978-1981, then became Chairman and CEO of Century Bank and Trust from 1981 - 2004, and continued to serve as a director of the Bank until May of 2008. He was currently employed with Farmers and Merchants Bank of Eatonton. He has served on the Board of Trustees for Lockerly Arboretum, Georgia Military College, Georgia Military College Foundation, Georgia College Foundation, Oconee Regional Medical Center Foundation, Milledgeville Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce, Milledgeville/Baldwin County Industrial Development Authority and served as financial advisor to Milledgeville Historic Preservation Commission and Georgia’s Antebellum Capitol Society and the Oconee River Greenspace Authority. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville. He is survived by his wife Ann Smith Wise of Milledgeville; daughters Kathy Segrest of Milledgeville, Becky Roberson of Birmingham, AL, and Debbie (Jay) Cox of Milledgeville; sisters Agnes Roper, Joyce Mitchum, and Suzie Bennett all of South Carolina; brothers F.D. “Junior” Wise of Pennsylvania and Mac Wise of South Carolina; grandchildren Justin (Kelly) Segrest, Jonathan Segrest, Kasey Segrest, Christin Cox, and Courtney Cox all of Milledgeville, Evan Roberson and Jackson Roberson both of Birmingham, AL; and great grandchildren Taylor and Cailyn Segrest of Milledgeville. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, Georgia Military College Foundation, First United Methodist Church, or Lockerly Arboretum.
